Though my knowledge of Excel is beyond the intermediate level, I was looking for an easy and approachable learning system for the novices in the office who were constantly asking me for Excel help. I don't mind being asked, but they were often reluctant to interrupt me, so I thought it best to provide them with a desk reference.Whether you start from the beginning of the book, one lesson at a time, or dive into a specific topic, the novice learner will find what he's looking for. The page layout, with full color graphics, tips and hints and many examples, will allow a learner to quickly grasp a concept and put it into use immediately. The only problem with the book is that I bought only one copy, so it is constantly being shuffled from one desk to another... I guess I'll have to break down a buy a few more !

I had great experience with the Excel 2007 version of this book. I used it to get up to speed on Pivot Tables very quickly. It provided me with everything I needed to know. The Pivot Table section of the 2010 edition is half the length of the earlier edition. If you don't already know how to use Pivot Tables, I doubt you could use the instructions productively. When I need pointers, I find I am better off reverting to my older 2007 edition.

Love these "Visually" how to books. Have been using them for years. Quick info, detailed "screen shots". Have them for Word, Access, Excel, Power Point, Windows 7, Windows Vista, AND Windows 10 is on order as I write. Actually quicker than surfing through the Office community pages, and other sources looking for answers from other users or surfing the entire Microsoft website looking for an answer to your question(s). GREAT tools! I highly recommend them all.

I sat down one Saturday and read through this book with my computer at hand. It was easy to understand and I loved the visual guides along with the written directions. I haven't actually "built" a complete spreadsheet with "extras" in it, but I used one of the templates and was able to make my way around and it turned out very nice looking. I look forward to using this program more and having this book handy as a reference guide.

I'm a big fan of the "Teach yourself Visually" series, which are a big improvement on the early editions. I would always get annoyed when a book would say, click here, then click there, then do this, then do that, etc. but the screen was not showing what the author was describing, so I would have to guess and then get frustrated because things were not working the way the author described. The Teach your self series leaves you in no doubt as to what you are supposed to do, with numbers, letters colors and pictures giving you very clear instructions on what to do.The Excel book is an excellent guide for managing accounts,using concatenation for setting up tables for databases, using Excel formulas, graphics, charts, etc.This book is very easy to use and a very handy tool to have beside you when using the Excel program.

Fortunately for me, I am not required to setup and keep complicated files involving formulas, etc. I keep only one file requiring the use of the percentage command, but mostly I keep personal data files where regular updated lists are required. If I were required to keep complex files, I would be looking for a more indepth book.

I recommend Teach Yourself Visually Excel 2010.I chose it as the text book for a continuing education class that I taught this fall. I believed that it would be a great resource for students during the class and a beneficial reference book after they had completed the class. Now that the classes are over, I feel that this was a good decision. I will use it for future Excel 2010 classes that I teach.The book covered all the topics needed to gain a broad understanding of Microsoft Excel. While I used it for a Beginning Excel class, it covers not only beginner topics, but some more advanced topics as well.Many students in the class were there to gain the computer skills they needed to improve their career opportunities. This book is comprehensives and will help achieve that goal.While I and the students in my class used Teach Yourself Visually Excel 2010 as the course text book, it is also a good choice if a person can't attend a course or prefers not to. It is clearly written with step-by-step instructions and illustrations showing how to perform common and some not-so-common tasks. The only thing needed in addition to this book to become a successful user of Microsoft Excel is to practice the procedures illustrated in the book.I highly recommend Teach Yourself Visually Excel 2010 for anyone wanting to learn how to use Excel 2010. I also recommend it for experienced users who want to have a handy and clear reference book for when they need to review procedures for operations that they haven't used before or don't use often.

I got this specifically for help with v-lookups -- but they are not included in the book at all!

Not sure that the insights here are particularly novel or"newly useful." But the book is subtle and worth putting on the required reading lists of every one in medical school or practice. Every white liberal doctor I know insists that while there maybe little or no explicit race bias to see in medical practice, especially in hospitals, there is a massive amount of careful and cautiously done research on the topic of explicit race discrimination in medical outcomes for patients. How both these can exist simultaneously is DBM's question and a very good one. But I am not sure her "cure" can work unless and until very fundamental social stereotyping by race can be scrubbed out of life in America, and elswhere, can be scrubbed clean.

JUST MEDICINE is an excellent account delineating cultural biases and the negative impact on health care delivery. Would certainly recommend to health professionals, however, lay people may find the information useful in navigating the health care system, advocacy, and building effective doctor/patient relationships for healthier outcomes.

This thoughtful book provides a careful look at how racial bias can be embedded in the systems that determine quality of care. We need more scholars like Dayna Matthew, who is will to grapple with what it will take to create lasting change

Professor Matthew presents a compelling argument for tackling one of our nation's most challenging healthcare issues, the disparities in health care among vulnerable and marginalized groups. The author has a valid point of view, but it is not as universally applicable as she would assume. Nonetheless, it is a thought provoking essay ( which it should have been, rather than a book) on how the unconscious infiltration of racial bias might affect medical care.

We absolutely adore this series of books in our family. Our 2.5 year old loves to hear the simple stories...and I feel like she's getting a little bit of an education. The pictures are also excellent.Of course, this isn't a full biography, but it does give my toddler enough information to learn about George Washington as a type of character.The fact that it's a board book also means that it is durable and that our daughter can have it when she's alone in her room and not tear it.We will build our library with all of these. :)

I got this book (along with others) to introduce small children to American History. I like the book, but feel like it's a bit "dry". Why include details like "He won the war at Yorktown, Virginia." If you only have two sentences about the Revolutionary War in the whole book, why use one sentence to mention the city and state where the war ended? Tell us that he won and some amazing, honorable thing HE DID in the the war. It is important to note that this book focuses on the WHOLE life of George Washington, birth to retirement. So, with only two sentences for each "chapter" of his life(being a board book for pre-schoolers, it IS the right length!) the events associated with his presidency and public service are told in 6 to 8 sentences. The other pages discuss where born, interests, farming, retirement, family. It's a good overview of the facts of George Washington's life.

Not completely historically accurate. Portrays slaves as "happy workers".

My toddler is currently 21 months and he is loving all this series. I know some concepts are too elevated for him at this age, but he knows and identifies the founding fathers now, he knows they loved to read and that they were great Americans. This is the type of book that will teach him different things as he gets older.

The simple telling of the story of our first president was well-received by our 2 year old grandson!The pictures added to the story.The words were simple, yet introduced new vocabulary in a context that a young child can learn.As a speech-language pathologist, I am always looking for children's books that can accomplish this important language development skill.

This book is a great way to begin teaching American history to a young audience. It is easy to read and full of illustrations to help illuminate the story behind the 1st President of the United States. Although the book isn't a very long biography, it certainly is one of the best and most fun ways to begin learning about the Father of America.

It was a gift for a kindergartener in Virginia. My Understanding is they enjoyed it very much!

A little long for my preschooler who was most interested in the Washington Monument anyway. Good coverage for kids over 6

I've always been a big fan of the Dummies books. They're written in such a way that an average person can understand the topic. This book is no different.While searching for a book I came across books written by pit masters. I'm sure they're all wonderful books but I don't want to be a pit master and I don't want to go out and buy most of the ingredients that they say are essential. I just wanted to jazz up my BBQ dishes a bit. I doubt that I'll win a BBQ competition if I follow this book but that's fine.The book is well organized and it's an easy read. The author gives very good tips and encourages you to experiment a bit. It's written in the usual casual style as Dummies books with some light humor sprinkled in to keep it interesting.I've tried more than a few of the recipes and I, and my family, thoroughly enjoyed most of them. A few were so-so but it's a matter of taste.For the average backyard BBQer, I recommend this book.

Like many backyard BBQ'ers I watch the different shows available now showing a myriad of styles, rubs, sauces, etc... I got to where my concoctions were overpowering the meat, and disappointing my friends. This book helped me to take it back a few notches, and understand WHY different seasonings go so well with others. It really improved my game, and my family/friends now ask me to cook for their gatherings regularly. Free food & beer, definitely worth it!I only gave it 4 stars because I think they could have took it a little further with the info, but it is a basics book so I really recommend it if you are looking to go beyond just burning burgers, dogs, and ribs on a grill.

Purchased this for my husband. He enjoys smoking meat...so I thought this would be a great addition to his smoking meat collection. He loves it. He has made several of his own BBQ sauces and Rubs. We have even given them out as gifts at Christmas. He gets lots of compliments on his sauces and his smoked meat.

This is my first book by this author. She takes the reality of depression and how it not only affects you, but how you can cope in the real world. Add a friend who is on her own rollercoaster of life and you have a really funny, laugh at yourself and outloud at life. Loved it!!

Amy Cole Has Lost Her Mind is a beautiful "slice of life" story that will have you in a tizzy! It is raw, emotional, and full of humor! Be prepared to lose yourself in this one!I don't usually grab for women's fiction often, but when I do, it's because I am in the mood for a heartwarming story mixed with emotional struggle, and a dash of humor. I can say that this one checked all those boxes. It was powerful and sentimental, and definitely had me laughing!I loved that McGivern hit Amy's depression and anxiety head on. Amy's struggles were real, and represented issues that always need to be addressed, understood, and sympathized with. Amy was such a beautiful, important character that grew and flourished within the story, but, at the same time, she kept true to herself, and always recognized that she had a lot to deal with. Her depression and anxiety weren't issues that could just be fixed over night.I really adored how McGivern highlighted the importance of family and friendship in these situations. I also really loved how Amy was able to open up, and begin part of the healing process, because one amazing, kind, stranger took the time to listen to her. There was so much beauty in this story!I appreciated the blossoming friendship between Elle and Amy. Though, I didn't always enjoy Elle's character. She was crass and crude at times, and definitely overbearing. But, she managed to bring about a new side to Amy, and helped her open up to herself. Amy gained confidence and a new view on life because of Elle.And, we cannot forget about the humor! My goodness, I didn't expect to laugh so much! It was like something I could envision Melissa McCarthy in! There was an embarrassing moment for Amy involving a trampoline, a failed attempt at a tryst with her husband, and a hilarious birthday dinner (among many other humorous moments). The comedy added a layer of depth and lightheartedness to the serious tone of the story without taking away from the mental health awareness theme.I am so glad I had the opportunity to read this! It touched my heart and soothed my soul. Stories like this one are the reason I have reached for the genre in the past, and will continue to reach for it in the future. It was full of dynamic characters, amusement, and strong themes of beauty, family, friendship, and awareness. Amy Cole’s life has been on a downward spiral for the past few months. Sure, she has a wonderful husband, Ben, and two young boys, but she has fallen into a state of depression, anxiety and self pity that has caused her to try to commit suicide after an emotional loss. Her husband loves her and although he means well, he is not helping Amy with his over protectiveness. Can Elle bring out the badass in Amy?I absolutely adore Amy. She is authentic, loving, a little bit crazy, and she can see the humor in mostly everything around her even when it comes to herself. Sure, she has problems and issues that she has to work through. Life at times can be hard. Amy knows this more than anyone. When she finally decides to do something about her sad state, she opens herself up, often in comical ways with her new found friend, Elle, and really starts coming out of the hole she has buried herself in. I love the transformation that Amy goes through as she finds herself for the first time in a long while. In the process she also helps her friend, Elle, who has problems of her own. Together they are a tag team duo full of life, laughter, and love.I certainly did not know what I was in for when I cracked open Amy Cole Has Lost Her Mind. I knew it was going to be humorous, but Elizabeth McGivern took it to a whole new level of hilarity. I was laughing so much, my stomach started to hurt! The antics Amy and Elle get into like attending a speed dating event, just to feel sexy from male attention, had me in stitches. The more sensitive subject matter is tastefully written with utmost care and compassion. It shows real issues ordinary women face daily. Real issues that matter.Amy Cole Has Lost Her mind is as real as it gets through all the ups and downs of marriage, life, kids and friendship.
