This is a thought provoking look at the fellowship and struggle of two families who are desiring to follow Jesus in very different circumstances on different continents. The blessing they both experience in meeting and sharing a meal is the springboard for seeking contentment and compassion. Parents will enjoy this colorful book as a read aloud and every family truly seeking to follow Jesus will benefit from the discussion that this story provokes. It is also a highly valuable book for Sunday school classes or other children’s discipleship programs as it comes complete with lesson plans that are easy to use for teachers. I am a homeschooling mother of five. My daughter received this book as a birthday gift and already it is a family favorite! I hope this author will write some more.
This is a beautiful story of a family's experience visiting Africa and the impact it had on their children. It's a wonderful lesson in gratitude for what we have and realizing how "rich" we really are! The illustrations are gorgeous and the song Mama George sings about God's provision makes the story so powerful. This book encourages children to be grateful for what they have, trust God to provide, and help others in need.
April Graney, wrote a book that's about a marvelous mud house. I like it a lot because the family comes to Kenya where I live. But that's not the only reason I like it, it teaches kids to be content with what they have. It's awesome. Another reason I like it is because I have met mama George. It's nice to let kids know how it feels to be content and going places changes your heart sometimes. George's brother plays games with us just like the ones she described in her book. In the market, that's where my family buys our bananas and mangoes and groceries. Their family pays George's school fees every year! I hope she writes another book. I loved it so much. Everyone who reads this book review rate the book 5 stars because it's a very good book. But this book review isn't nearly as good as the book. I encourage you to buy it and use it as an example and a story book.Jude age 10
This was a great book and helped teach my kids that they don't need to buy a toy each time they are at a store.
All of my children (ages 13-6) loved this book. My older kids really took the message to heart. My middle daughter heard it read at summer camp and came home taking about it and promptly put the Marvelous Mud House on her birthday list. My youngest loves learning about new places and people and the book has opened new conversations about both. It's a new favorite at our house.
My kids got to hear this story before it was published when the author read it at their summer camp. They loved it! I knew when it was published I would order a copy. The illustrations are beautiful and the message is so timely. We want our kids to develop contentment and compassion, and I love how this book encourages that through beautiful storytelling.

The best thing about this book is that it is a true story of a family who goes to Africa and then finds a way to help a little African boy go to school. Not only that, but it teaches a great lesson of contentment and joy to our kids living in America. Something truly special about this story is that we get to help George go to school when we purchase this book, because the proceeds from the book will go right back to Mama George so George can keep going to school. Great job, April! Great book and great vision!
